O My Father
Original composition by: John Baptiste Calkin
Lyrics by: Eliza R. Snow
President Harold B. Lee stated, “We forget that we have a Heavenly Father and a Heavenly Mother who are even more concerned, probably, than our earthly father and mother, and that influences from beyond are constantly working to try to help us when we do all we can.”
This arrangement is for SATB choir with a tenor solo voice. The first verse is for the women, the second verse is for the men. The third verse is all voices in parts following the arrangement from the hymnbook. You will notice the second portion of this verse changes the rhythm because I wanted to focus on the doctrine that is being discovered here - the doctrine that there is a Heavenly Mother! The fourth verse begins with a tenor soloist. He should take his time here because it is a verse of reflection. The choir joins in with power, but then it ends in a tone that is pleading and longing to come and live with our Heavenly Parents. The song ends with three times repeating the phrase “O My Father” out of respect and reverence for Him.
